DR. JERRY HIURA
Dr. Jerrold Hiura was born in Chicago, Illinios but has lived in the Bay Area since the age of 7. After graduating from Willow Glen High School, San Jose, he attended the University of California at Berkeley, graduating with a BS in Biology and a BS in Physiologic Optics. Following graduate work at Harvard, he went on to complete his DDS from Washington University School of Dental Medicine in 1976. He joined his father's practice soon after in Japantown, San Jose. In 2008, he moved across the street to a completely renovated and expanded office space.
Dr. Hiura's treatment philosophy begins and ends with preventative care. "Motivating patients to high levels of tissue management which preserves support for the teeth is key to successful treatment." He comes from a family of 16 dentists who are, or were at one time, practicing in the Bay area. He is a member of the ADA, CDA and SCCDS. Dr. Hiura also serves as an advisor on dental legislation to Assembly member Paul Fong.
Active in the arts community, Dr. Hiura served as the Chair of the City of San Jose's Arts Commission and was President of the Arts Council of Silicon Valley. In 2002, he was appointed by Governor Gray Davis to the California State Arts Council where he served as Vice Chair. He is also the co-founder of the Contemporary Asian Theater Scene (CATS) and the Japantown Community Congress of San Jose (JCC). He is also a Senior Fellow of the American Leadership Forum of Silicon Valley.
Dr. Hiura lives in Los Gatos with his wife and has four grandkids. He enjoys hiking, painting, traveling, golf and continues a deep involvement in the Japantown and arts communities.
DR. STEPHANI UENO
Dr. Stephani Ueno is originally from the Pacific Northwest and attended the University of Washington, graduating summa cum laude with a B.A. in Psychology. She earned her DMD from Tufts University School of Dental Medicine in Boston, scoring honors in her National Boards. She is a member of the Spears Study Club, ADA, CDA, and SCCDS.
In her free time, Dr. Ueno enjoys spending time with her husband, two kids, and adopted shitzu, as well as traveling. Her favorite place so far has been to Italy for its colorful history, phenomenal food, and amazing vino.
DR. KENT HIURA
Dr. Kent Hiura has been practicing dentistry in San Jose for 31 years. As an active member of the ADA, CDA and SCCDS, you can expect nothing but the highest quality of standard dental care. His treatment philosophy is prevention is the best form of dentistry and the key is to educate patients so that they can take the initiative to maintain a lifetime healthy mouth.
Family is very important to Dr. Kent which is evident in his practice. He started his career working with his uncle, Dr. Thomas Hiura and cousin, Dr. Jerry Hiura at a small office on Taylor St. before moving his practice to 1 st St. He has had the honor of treating generations of families who have entrusted him with their oral care. His arrival at Japantown Dental brings him back full circle as he again joins his cousin, Dr. Jerry Hiura. His son is currently completing his DDS at UOP and Dr. Kent hopes to one day pass along his dental knowledge to the next generation of dentists in his family.
He completed his B.S. in Biology at UCLA, and Masters in Public Health Administration at USC. He returned to the Bay area where he received his D.D.S. from the University of California San Francisco in 1985.
Dr. Kent is married and has two children, one in Seattle and the other studying dentistry in San Francisco. He is an avid golfer and enjoys sports of all varieties.
DR. ROBERT YEE
Dr. Robert Yee has been living in the Bay Area since he was 5. He is a graduate of Monta Vista High School in Cupertino. He obtained his B.S. in Biology from UC San Diego and his D.D.S. from USC. Dr. Yee is also a part-time Clinical Assistant Professor for USC where he travels down ~4 times a year to teach dental students how to work on children through USC's Dental Mobile Clinic.
In his free time, Dr. Yee likes to spend time with his family and friends. Having competed in tennis since he was 8, Dr. Yee still maintains an active lifestyle by competing and playing tennis at least 3-4 times per week.
